Backlit Glass Splashbacks: Everything You Need to Know

Backlit onyx glass splashback glowing in a dark kitchen

A backlit splashback is printed glass that is lit from behind, so the whole panel glows. It is one of the most dramatic ways to finish a kitchen, especially in the evening.

How does a backlit splashback work?

The design is printed onto toughened glass, and lighting behind the panel shines through it. The effect is a soft, even glow that brings out the depth and detail of the design, particularly with natural stone looks like onyx and marble.

Which designs work best?

Translucent-looking designs are the stars of backlighting:

  • Onyx: its layered bands and crystalline detail glow beautifully when lit.
  • Marble: bold veins stand out dramatically against the light.

Why backlit glass is always professionally fitted

Backlit splashbacks include lighting that has to be planned and fitted precisely. For that reason, our own team always measures and installs backlit glass; it is not available as supply only. This makes sure the panel sits perfectly and the light is even across the whole surface.

Where does backlit glass look best?

  • Behind a sink or hob as a focal point
  • In darker kitchens where it adds warmth and atmosphere
  • On bars and feature walls
